Beloved, Beware

September 27, 2009

John,  the disciple who was with Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration when Jesus was cloaked in heavenly glory with Moses,  coaxes believers in 1 John 4:1 to “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world”‘ – Test every spirit.

To properly test spirits,  your sensors have to be alert, and able to discern truth from false.  You have to be connected to the truth, since Jesus is the Truth, the Way, and The Life (John 14:6), this means that you need to be connected by experiencing the Word (John 1:1) directly – and the only way of doing that is reading or hearing the Bible.

Testing and making discerning judgments according to God’s Word (Jesus Christ) is important because as a result of  living in a sinful and fallen world we experience trials (James 1:2) – just like Jesus did, except for most of us,  the end game is not a horrible death on the cross, or any sort of execution.

Re-read Proverbs 3 for comfort and restoration.
