Entering the Kingdom

January 4, 2009

and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. “Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

(Mat 18:3-7 NASB)

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

“For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. “Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? “Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

 (Mat 7:11-7 NASB)

God desires to give blessing and goodness into our lives.  In the passages above,  Jesus describes what is required to enter the kingdom of heaven and what attitude we must have.  One of humility and meekness and innocence / obedience.

We must be careful to not put anything in the way of any little one seeing / knowing Christ as Lord.

The second passage is a reminder that God wants to be in relationship with us as a parent is to their child.  We desire to bless our children with shelter, food, clothing, toys, entertainment… good things.  Whe our children ask,  most often we supply what they ask for.  Jesus is saying God is the same way,  what we ask for He wants to give us.  We need to be listening and talking to God to be in a position and able to ask and receive God’s blessings.  It is ok to ask for what we need or want.

So choose to enter the kingdom today,  become like a child in your attitude with God and others.  Choose joy, laughter, and playfulness.  Choose to look to God, ask for blessing, ask for needs and wants, just be sure to be in conversation with Him.  God wants to give.
